The Metal Card and the iButton® together make a wearable computer that is hard to beat for compactness and indestructibility. Both are metal and stand up to the punishment of everyday wear. But while the Metal Card is eminently wearable and economical, it’s the Java™-powered iButton® that delivers the computing power. No matter how you wear it, here’s what you get with your Java™-powered iButton®: iButton® not included.

Note to customer: The iButton® needs to be ordered from Dallas Semiconductor prior to installation the iButton® to the Metal Card.

Java™-powered iButton® Features:

  • Read/write while attached
  • Durable enough for everyday wear - drop, step on, scuff, submerse in water
  • >25k volts ESD
  • Large NV RAM (up to 134k bytes); multiple independent services can be revised after issuance
  • 64-bit registration number defines the globally unique 1-Wire® net address
  • Minimalist 1-Wire communication for inexpensive connectivity - $15 retail for serial, parallel or USB
  • True time clock for time-stamping transactions and self-imposing expiration dates of a PIN (pre-or post-enrollment)
  • JavaCard#153; compliant with enhancements—garbage collection, 32-bit integers
  • ISO7816 and enhancements from using only one I/O and ground pin of the 8 smart card contacts
  • Framework support for OpenCard, Netscape® and Windows®
  • Crypto infrastructure: PKCS11 (Netscape®), CAPI (Microsoft®), javacardx.crypto (Sun®), X509 certificate
